We and our partners are basically building a state park at San Vicente Redwoods – complete with trails for hikers, horse-back riders, and mountain bikers. The first set of partners bought the 8,500-acre forest in 2011. The latest partner to join the effort is REI Co-op which has given $25,000 to help build those trails.
REI’s support for the Land Trust is part of their pioneering effort building relationships with local non-profits to support a common goal—connecting people to the amazing outdoors. Just last year, they gave more than 70% of their profits back to the outdoors community, and since 1976 they have invested over $75 million to support organizations throughout the entire country!
REI’s support just begins with money and expands to include a wide range of partnerships activities, including gear donations, promotion of non-profits on their website and in their stores, and a shared excitement about getting people out into the great outdoors. When I talked to their Saratoga store manager, he was as excited about the San Vicente Trails as we are. Excitement is contagious and we’re excited to be working with a new partner on this ambitious project.
Make sure you check out their Saratoga store for awesome outdoor gear and learn more about their amazing work here.
